Some heroes wear capes and fly, others tuck us in at night and check under the bed for the boogie man but this collection of poems is about the hero that presents as not only a mom, but a mom who is doing it all by herself. Pyramid is about the memory the storyteller has of having both parents and how things were then, but also the shift that they endured when losing the father and how they watched their mother take over to give them the best childhood possible. Saturday Morning speaks about the rituals that happen on a Saturday morning and how they have come together to connect with each other on this day. Eventually wrapping up on the couch to a photo album the child as put together so mom is reminded that her child will never forget how far they’ve come together and how happy they were with dad. Single Mom Power is a poem of power recognizing all the simple things that one could overlook that a single mom does that is so very appreciated. A collection to give all the love in the world to the mom that does it all for the sake of their child, what a gift.
Being Raised by a Kick Ass Single Mother
We were a trio
A family of three
Trifecta of love, life and pursuing our happiness
A triangle
Pyramid of the Greek God status
Watching Dad to Dad things
Wondering if I was ever going to find someone
To love
That deep kind of
No matter what the conditions
The love stood at the top of the
Small platform at the top of the pyramid
Of our existence fighting off all bad things
Negative thoughts
People who didn’t want us to win
Those that didn’t believe that we could do what we were doing
Be what we were living
Winning the game of life as easy as 1-2-3
Looking behind us with no one to see
That we
We were all we needed
All Mom and Dad wanted
All… together.
